Anyone got suggestions on the best place to get an alternator? I have read that alternator's from parts stores (checker, autozone) don't seem to last. Any help would be appreciated.

So, with the advice, I'm looking at a Hitachi 70amp. It says it is a direct replacement with no modifications or adjustments.

Sound good to you guys?

Hitachi is a good company and stand behind them on my other cars.... Never used them on the Z though!

you can go with the 90 amp maxima altenator from napa. you have to swap the pulley but other then that it's a direct swap. i've had one on my car for 5 years now with no problems.
