PostSubject: Broke down the "newer" motor tonight   Broke down the "newer" motor tonight EmptyFri Oct 17, 2008 2:03 pm

So the ppl that know me know that my Z has been down for an extended length of time, since jan of 06 to be exact. The engine lost power while i was commuting for a job and the motor locked up. About 7 months ago i finally got the money to buy a "used" motor, boy if only i knew what i know now. Tonight my cousin (ASE Mechanic) and i finally got around to breaking down the newer motor only to find that the heads are totally screwed in it. The valves wouldn't even move up or down when the crank was turned. I bought the motor from a place called Sunrise Nissan & Kia Dismantling out of Rancho Cordova, Ca. I paid $850 which is pretty cheap but i still expected a decent motor. So anywho heres some pics of the tear down earlier tonight.

Ok so here's the pics i took then i first got the engine

Used engines are like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get. Sorry to see you got shafted I am guessing they did not give you any type of warranty did they?

Yeah they gave me, 50,000 miles or 6 months, needless to say the date i bought it was 2/12/08. My cousin said night before last when we broke it down, "man i wish we would have torn this thing down when you first got it". I think i remember mentioning it but im not totally sure about that. Even if it was still under warranty, i'd still have to spend the money to ship it back. It's just a bad ordeal all the way around, only good thing is i'll have a stronger rebuilt engine when i get done silent

Well man I can relate you ya. If you need any parts or anything let me know plan on clearing off some shelves in the shop before I start working on my Z’s once I get back home in about 30 days give or take. I will more than likely try to push out my old NA parts cheep seeing how I need the room.
